CULTIVATING CONNECTION THROUGH PLANTS & HERB
Creating Safe Spaces to Learn and Grow
Founded by Charlene Lord in 2021, Black Woman Plant Chronicles is a Black-owned, woman-led community initiative that centres ethical, sustainable gardening and food sovereignty for Black and other marginalized communities. BWPC grows from Charlene’s home practice of tending plants, herbs, and food and translates personal care into collective learning and care.

WHAT WE DO
BWPC offers accessible, soulful learning experiences through in-person and virtual workshops. Our core programs include plant repotting and propagation, seasonal herbal medicine making, and practical courses on growing your own food. Each workshop combines hands-on-skills, storytelling, and gentle ritual to helps participants build confidence, connection, and everyday practices with plants and herbs.

WHO WE SERVE
We design programs with intentional accessibility and cultural humility, prioritizing spaces where Black and marginalized community members feel seen, safe, and supported. Whether you are beginner or an experienced grower, BWPC invites you to learn, share, and tend alongside neighbours and teachers.

OUR VISION
BWPC’s long-term goal is to develop inclusive local green spaces that support food sovereignty, ecological stewardship, and community resilience. We aim to expand regenerative, accessible places that nourish land and people, model sustainable development practices, and strengthen community wellbeing through shared learning, care, and stewardship.

OUR COMMITMENT
We are committed to ethical sourcing, ecological care, and community resilience reinvestment. As BWPC grows, we will reinvest in programming and partnerships that empower marginalized communities through collaboration, shared resources, and giving back.
Join us to cultivate skill, belonging, and healing - one plant, one herb, one garden at a time.
